Greenpower work with over 700 teams across the UK, hosting over 30 regional event and an international final annually. Ranging from primary school age through to university, more than 10,000 students take part in events every year.
Here are Yeukai’s thoughts on becoming a trustee
Greenpower is a charity that I deeply admire for its inspiring mission to engage young people in STEM and broaden access to opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. As someone who has always been passionate about both education and innovation, I recognise the profound influence Greenpower has on shaping the next generation of engineers, scientists, and problem-solvers. Reflecting back, this is exactly the kind of opportunity I would have loved to be part of as a child, especially given my enthusiasm for Formula 1 and the thrill of engineering excellence it represents.
When I was invited to apply to join as a trustee following the completion of our Lean improvement project, I saw it as a unique chance to give back to a cause I truly believe in while applying my skills in business development to help the organisation grow sustainably. The project itself, which focused on optimising Greenpower's kit cars pipeline process from kit car/parts ordering, manufactures /stock management and shipping to invoicing, enabled the team to experience how continuous improvement can create positive, tangible benefits that strengthen operations, reduce waste and free up resources to focus on value-adding activities.
As a trustee, I am inspired and energised by the opportunity to influence strategic decisions, champion innovation, and support Greenpower's growth trajectory. I am committed to leveraging my expertise in Lean and Continuous Improvement, not only to enhance operational efficiency, but also to help unlock new possibilities for impact, ensuring the charity can reach and inspire even more young people across diverse communities.
Being part of Greenpower's journey is both a privilege and a motivation; it fuels my passion for meaningful change and reminds me that when expertise meets purpose, we can create transformative outcomes that resonate far beyond the immediate project benefits. I’m excited to contribute to this vibrant community and help build a future where every young person has the chance to explore STEM, develop their potential, and maybe even find themselves inspired by the same wonders that captivated me.
